Catherine's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
