Woman Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Stop Attack Succumbs to Injuries

The female victim who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop within Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The victim, aged 34 years, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, West Midlands Police said.

The suspect, 21, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, charged over the attack.

He was previously accused with attempted murder but following the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the woman's family.

Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.

Incident Location

The knife attack occurred outside Bullring retail complex, opposite primary access point of New Street railway station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Eyewitness Reports

Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period at about 22:00 Friday night.

She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", adding that co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances around 9 PM.

"A lot of co-workers take public transport, take the tram... our safety is at risk fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Another individual, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern about what had happened.

"It causes concern for my girlfriend," he stated.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... and to think something completely unprovoked [happened], you know, it's horrible."
